Pre-Op Update

We met with the surgeon at Shriners Hospital on Friday December 8th and we are all set for surgery on December 22nd. Granted that Robbie’s doesn’t get sick; The surgery will take approximately 3 hrs start to finish. God willing everything goes well, he will have a two day hospital stay for observation and get the correct pain management medication. He will be discharged and heading home Christmas eve.

Just in time to open gift, eat tamales, and enjoy well needed family time.

The procedure is called right syme amputation. Which is the removal of all foot bones. He will haves a cast above the knee, with the knee bent to avoid a walking on the surgery site, but with ability to crawl his way around the house.

Three weeks post op, he will have the cast removed and be fitted for a compression sock. This will help decrease the swelling and will be able to start walking. Once we see him comfortably walking and stepping on his stump, (aprox 2-3 weeks with compression sock on,) they will start fitting him for a prosthetic.

We will need to find the energy to go back and forth from Hollister to Sacramento once a week  (180 miles one way) once they start the prosthetic fitting process.  We were told that we would have to go up to Shriners Hospital once a week for 3-4 during the process of buliding his prosthetic.

We are also hoping to be off the wait list and have the opportunity to stay at the Ronald McDonald’s house across the street of the hospital during his hospital stay.

Please keep Robbie in your prayers. 🙏🏼

We will keep you posted as things occur. Til then, hug  your loved ones extra tight and remind how much you love them.
